Brave man making the journey up for the Scottish Time trial - but seems to have been worth the effort ! Thought some people might be interested in this episode of Coast which is available on BBC iPlayer for another week or so:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b04g6vvz/coast-series-7-reversions-2-the-riddle-of-the-tides It's all about tides, how tides work around the UK, early tide prediction machines and at the end the presenter goes paddling in some tidal races with Nigel Dennis. The tide information is pretty basic, but it's interesting enough and the paddling at the end will make you want to get into a boat as soon as possible! Cheers, Matthew Although each of the coaches will have their own approaches - this is the sort of sequence you will be taken through to get you ready to roll in the pool sessions over the next three weeks !
Pool sessions will start on Wednesday 4th November, at Keswick pool, 7pm.
On Wed 4th Nov, Dan will be running a session for coaches and experienced paddlers on how to teach people to roll. This will be in addition to a general pool session for anyone who wants to come. On Wednesdays 11th, 18th and 25th Dan will be running a learn to roll course. This is a fantastic opportunity. Places are limited. If you would like to take part, please contact Dan to book a place: [email protected] Anyone who is not taking part in the rolling tuition is welcome to come along as normal: 7-7.45 beginners, 7.45-8.30 experienced paddlers. Tough Tay Descent this year - water very low meant a lot of K1s / K2s got down without mishap. Alistair and Alan were competing - neither terribly successfully !. A long 24 miles at this leve of waterl. Good day out but a long way to go there and back in a day !
Fantastic weekend - paddling round Penrhyn Mawr and the Stacks. Weather was kind, wind was fair and only a few adverse currents!
Must plan to do again soon ! Alan A couple of skerries and stacks outings from Anglesey Outdoors for some intrepid club paddlers and friends from the region this weekend.
Camping so hope the weather holds ! Alan 3 club members competed in this annual race last weekend.
Congratulations to Tom & M - setting a new mixed K2 record and third overall ! Epic. Couldn't find a picture of you both in the boat - but there is one that makes clear that Tom does all the boat portaging - good delegation M..... Alistair also showed some steely resolve - it is a long way to paddle in slow canals - much of it without another boat in sight ! Alan and Alistair battled it out in different K2 pairings for this race last weekend.
Conditions were the most challenging ever for this 20 Km race round Kerrara which has been running annually since 2010. Alistair and Kevin Locke in the Fyne Boats Kit boat won the duel even though the conditions had blown their rear hatch and by the end the back of the boat was virtually underwater! Hats off to my partner Michael Yeomans in the front of the Sipre Svellbard who managed to hold his nerve - only his fourth time on the sea and some big breaking waves to contend across Castle Bay and then at Chaos Corner as it is known! Great atmosphere with some very competitive racing as well as a lot of more leisurly touring and fancy dress approaches ! Highly recommended.... |
